t & i musical journey at the 30th anniversary of KC Pekarna

You are invited to a fresh musical journey of the t & i duo, where well-known stories and lesser-known original adventures will unfold through stardust - on Thursday, 13.6.2023, in KC Pekarna in Maribor.

Tajana Stres is one of the main drivers of the awakening and preservation of the ukulele instrument in Slovenia through her ambassadorship of the Flight ukulele&Music max shop and as the mastermind and implementer of the Ukulele NoStress project.

She teaches the instrument, conducts ukulele workshops and founded the NoStress Ukestra, the only ukulele group in Slovenia present in the cultural field, where she is also the lead vocalist. She also collaborates with other musicians on singing, ukulele and original lyrics.

Igor Bezget is a composer, guitarist and producer whose musical career spans from the mid-1980s and includes over 100 recorded original studio projects. With a background in genres such as jazz, rock and funk music, Igor has also devoted himself to the study of various world music genres and traditional instruments, including the Arabic lute or oud, the Turkish saz, the Indian sarod and the African ngoni. Igor's work transcends musical styles and ranges from strictly structured to completely free improvised music, from solo playing to small groups to orchestras, from pure acoustics to digital-electronic music. He has performed and recorded on every continent from prestigious venues and large festivals to small clubs with many of the leading musicians on the planet in their fields of work.

"30th anniversary of KC Pekarna
On 16 June 1994, the four of them piled into an old Katrca and drove to the barracks next to Magdalene Park, the fifth was waiting for them outside the barracks. When the others joined them during the day, they all locked themselves in the first building and waited to see what would happen. The community was growing and the Maribor alternative had a roof over its head. Gradually, they filled the spaces in the whole complex that had not been occupied before their arrival. They occupied them like good stewards, so that they would not continue to fall into disrepair or get lost in the privatisation desolation of the time. In the first year, there were around 250 events, but we cannot count how many in the whole 30 years.

But they should be, because the macho attitude of the city authorities towards alternative culture in our city is the rule rather than the exception. Existentially threatened, under attack and under pressure all the time. The necessary tectonic shifts in mentality are sadly absent. But since 1994, the area of the former military bakery has been a place of creation, connection and action for many. It is not just a space of cultural content consumed by visitors every now and then, but an important venue in its own right, a rich and complex interplay of cultural, youth, social, social and sporting content, deeply embedded in the neighbourhood. In the 30 years of its existence we have experienced many things, ups and downs - like any community that creates, produces, educates and encourages, while resisting the relentless march of imperialism and capitalism.
We open up questions and perspectives, we do not dream of the good old days, but we push boundaries, broaden horizons and enrich social mileage with incisiveness and determination. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Pekarna Cultural Centre, we invite you to a wide range of events that will take place in the week of 10-16 June."
